Sony launches Laptop for 1 Lac Rupees
Sony has launched what they claim to be the world's smallest & lightest notebook computer, which would be priced at Rs.1 lac ($1,881) on its launch in the Indian Market. It is just of the size of a normal PDA but has all the functionalities of a PC. It comes with fully functional version of Windows XP; it also has a high capacity flash memory hard drive for storage capabilities and a 12.1-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) screen with good resolution.
It weighs around 898 grams and is provided power supply with 9.6 million Sony batteries, which according some other PC manufactures is its drawback as on rare occasions these batteries could overheat and catch fire, which has raised concern that production of replacement-use batteries may reduce Sony's supply capability for batteries that go into these new PCs. Sony said it expects a basic model of its new 'type G' computer, which runs for about 12.5 hours on a battery which is not equipped with an optical drive would available in international markets by the start of the year 2007 and is expected to sell for about 220,000 yen ($1,881) which in our Indian market would cost around 1 lac rupees. This new Notebook Computer would be called Sony's 'type G' Vaio and would be the lightest laptop PC in the world.
Though it comes with small keyboard interface, which is inconvenient for typing long sentences to overcome this drawback Sony has provided two USB ports to which the USB enabled port could be plugged in for long typing. Overall it is good gadget but due concerns over battery life and small screen interface it looks more of a cool gadget then being an equipment of a practical use and to out wit the standard PCs and wide screened notebook computers.
